Aromatherapy

Course Objectives 
The goal of this course is to provide an overview of aromatherapy, describe the historical use of fragrance and aromatherapy for healing, the methods of essential oil extraction and application, the clinical effects of essential oils using a body systems approach, the research about using aromatherapy for specific conditions, contraindications regarding the use aromatherapy, and the key elements of some of the most common essential aromatic healing oils. 
 
Course Content 
1. Explain the history, development and definition of aromatherapy  
2. Describe the structure and function of plants in the production of essential and carrier oils  
3. Define the terms applicable to essential oils, essences, carrier oils, fixed oils and other media 4. Explain the methods of extraction  
5. Explain the significant chemical constituents for each of the essential oils listed  
6. Explain the structure and function of the olfactory tract and the ways in which essential oils are absorbed in this area, and the disorders affecting the sense of smell  
7. Explain the physiological and psychological effects of aromatherapy on the body systems  
8. Explain methods of consultation  
9. Recognise those contra-indications to aromatherapy requiring medical referral or the client to sign an informed consent form before the treatment and those contra-indications that restrict treatment  
10. Demonstrate appropriate client care  
11. Explain and demonstrate the aromatherapy massage movements  
12. Explain and demonstrate suitable aromatherapy massage techniques

Progression 
Once candidates have achieved Aromatherapy course, they may progress on to higher level of equivalent courses. This award qualifies graduate to operate their own massage practice. Graduate can also gain employment in massage industry.

10. All fees paid are not transferable. 
11. All non-tuition fees paid are non-refundable. 
12. An official receipt will be given on receipt of payment. 
13. A late payment charge of S$12 per month will be charged for overdue payments of more than two weeks.  
14. The school reserves the right as its discretion to terminate the student from the course for overdue fees.
